Our Four Centuries of Quilts giveaway, which asked submitters to write about a memory related to a quilt was won by Sally H. and Wendy F.:
Sally writes: My mum hand stitched a tulip patterned red, white, and pink cross-stitched quilt for me when I was 14. It took her years to finish, but she kept at it, sewing the seams, the quilting pattern, the cross-stitches, and the double edge. I have it to this day. She can no longer sew because her hands are so painful and tortured with rheumatoid arthritis, but she put herself into that quilt for me, so I would have a part of her to carry with me into my adult life.
Wendy says: I had a handmade quilt when i was a child. I have no memories of who made it. But i know they added a pillow head to make it like a doll. It was pink and green. I haven’t thought of it in years. Your contest is what actually brought it back to my mind from the depths of my memory. I just asked my husband for a sewing machine for Christmas so perhaps I can make gifts for others.
